I always believed my zodiac sign was Aries, only until I recently came across a post about the 13th zodiac sign. So all this time I had been living a lie. There is an 86% chance that you were actually born under a different constellation, suggests BBC.
An astronomical phenomenon called precession, or the ‘wobbling effect’ of the Earth caused by the Moon and the Sun, means that the stars above us have drifted out by about a month in the 2,000 years since the creation of the zodiac.
This means that if you thought you were a Taurus, it’s likely that you’re actually an Aries. How??
There’s also a thirteenth star sign – Ophiuchus, or the serpent bearer. Ophiuchus is a fairly large and rambling constellation, but it is one of the least well-known. Although Ophiuchus does touch the elliptic – the path that the sun appears to take through the sky – astrologers for centuries ignored it as part of the Zodiac.
So, what’s your real zodiac sign then? Check out your real sign below…
19 December – 20 January: Sagittarius
21 January – 16 February: Capricorn
17 February – 12 March: Aquarius
13 March – 18 April: Pisces
19 April – 14 May: Aries
15 May – 21 June: Taurus
22 June – 20 July: Gemini
21 July – 10 August: Cancer
11 August – 16 September: Leo
17 September – 31 October: Virgo
1 November – 23 November: Libra
24 November – 29 November: Scorpio
So if you’re born between 30 November and 18 December – congratulations! You’ve won a new star sign on the astronomical zodiac (Ophiuchus).
Although, the 13th zodiac sign is quite controversial. According to some expert astrologers, Ophiuchus is not a sign, it’s a constellation. Also according to them astrology is based on the four seasons, not on constellations — and the seasons don’t change.
“Astrology is just a lens to view our human nature. Different zodiacs and different astrology systems are just different lenses that show us a different view of who we are. You are who you are, regardless of which lens you look at yourself through.”
P.S. I read this somewhere, and it’s so true !
