How to help our animal companion this summer

Now that mercury is rising upon us, it brings with it a host of risks for our companion animals. With temperature rising, it’s advisable to keep pets indoor all the time. Exposing pets in sun in anyway is a bad idea !

As heat waves can take a toll on animals, here a few lifesaving tips straight from PETA.

  1. Keep dog companions indoors. Unlike humans, dogs can sweat only through their footpads, and they cool themselves by panting. High temperatures can cause heat stress and physical injuries – including brain damage – and can even result in death.
  2. Avoid leaving animals in parked cars. Never leave a dog inside a parked car in warm weather, even for short periods of time with the windows slightly open. Even on a relatively mild 28-degree day, the temperature inside a car can climb rapidly, reaching a dangerous 32 degrees in the shade and a deadly 71 degrees in the sun. Dogs trapped inside a hot car can succumb to heatstroke within minutes – even if the car isn’t parked in direct sunlight.
  3. Provide animals with water when they’re outdoors. Place mud pots that are filled with cool, clean water outside your home or at places where there are homeless or working animals. Inexpensive mud pots will help keep the water cool and won’t tip over. To help birds stay cool, place bowls of water on window sills, on balconies, on terraces and in gardens. Change the water regularly.
  4. Give working animals a break. Ask owners of bullocks and donkeys to give the animals a rest, especially during the heat of the afternoon, and help the animals cool off by gently spraying water on them.
  5. Stay alert and save a life. Keep an eye on all the animals you see outdoors. Make sure that they have adequate water and shelter. If you find an animal in distress, contact humane authorities right away and give the animal water for immediate relief.

You can also keep your surroundings cool by sprinkling cold water so that it provides a relief to stray dogs.

Spread the word and stay safe !

Vintage Engagement Rings !

There are so many beautiful engagement rings out there, but some of my very favorites are vintage or antique. I’ve always loved big antique rings with a big sparkly stone in the centre and a little ring of crystals sitting around them. Not everyone has a family heirloom ring to pass down, but the internet makes it insanely easy to find beautiful antique bling. I could actually spend hours browsing internet for such a bling thing ! I would love to share a few of my favorites… Continue reading

A soldier dies, no one cares. An actor sentenced for crime, sympathies flooding !

So, Bollywood star Salman Khan has been convicted by a Mumbai sessions court in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

I have been spending the afternoon glancing at news, celebrity gossip sites, and reading the many comments those kinds of sites bring. A big celebrity getting convicted is indeed a news, at least in our system of functioning where we put the famous on pedestals and see them as celebrities, stars, notables and what not. The news also took Twitter by storm as the #SalmanVerdict emerged as the top trend. Continue reading

Do you really know your zodiac sign? May be..or may be not !

I always believed my zodiac sign was Aries, only until I recently came across a post about the 13th zodiac sign. So all this time I had been living a lie. There is an 86% chance that you were actually born under a different constellation, suggests BBC.

An astronomical phenomenon called precession, or the ‘wobbling effect’ of the Earth caused by the Moon and the Sun, means that the stars above us have drifted out by about a month in the 2,000 years since the creation of the zodiac.

This means that if you thought you were a Taurus, it’s likely that you’re actually an Aries. How??

Ever heard of Aloe Vera Juice? Yes, the one you can drink!

Everyone (most probably) of us is familiar with Aloe Gel and its ability to soothe sunburn naturally (especially when summer is around). But ever heard of a kind you can drink? There is this another form that has many benefits as well – the Aloe Vera Juice. First off, let me make it very clear : The type of aloe gel tubes or aloe gel jars are only for the topical use and are not the kind to be consumed. I tried with Brimune Aloe Vera Juice (available in Planet Health or other medical stores near you). This one is a sugar free, fibrous aloe juice. I continued with it for one year and found certain changes in my skin and with my digestive system as well. Well it worked miraculously for me at least.

I have penned down some of the few other benefits of aloe vera juice as stated by various sites: Continue reading

The Fairness Mania

Yes, I’m talking about the obsession of the society with the so called “white skin”. People are so obsessed with white skin that they have all started endorsing the stupid fairness creams, which promise them the ticket to the world of glamour. This actually sounds so funny to me at least! What is this white skin all about? Are you ashamed of your complexion?? It is kind of pathetic and weird, how Indian are obsessed with fairness creams and its evident from the way these creams do brisk business in the country. Its pathetic how people’s view on beauty mean’t FAIRNESS.

Sipping Up On Green Tea

This post is overdue. I mean long overdue. I intended to write about it long back in last summer.  I tried it for the first time when I actually got very health conscious and started gymming  and sipping on healthy beverages. Green tea is considered one of the world’s healthiest drinks and contains one of the highest amount of antioxidants of any tea. Believe me! I’m sipping on green tea since two long years now and I have lost all those extra kg’s. As green tea also contains a lot of detoxifying agents, it can be the next big break through in acne treatment. Let me tell you a few more benefits of green tea in short. Continue reading
